Where is the screen recording button?

Content

I’ve been trying to record a tutorial on my phone, specifically on a Samsung Galaxy device running the latest Android version, but I can’t seem to locate the option to start a screen recording. I’ve already checked the Quick Settings panel by swiping down from the top, but I don’t see any icon related to screen recording. Could someone tell me exactly where to find this button? Is it under a hidden section, or do I need to enable it somewhere in settings? Also, is it different if I’m using a specific app or menu? Please provide a step-by-step location path.

On iOS devices (iPhone and iPad):

  1. Open the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner (on iPhone with Face ID) or up from the bottom (on iPhone with Home button or iPad).
  2. Long-press the gray Record icon (a circle within a square) in the media controls section (under Quick Start if visible).
  3. Tap Microphone to toggle audio recording.
  4. Tap Start Recording and confirm.

On Android devices (methods vary by manufacturer):

  • Samsung: Swipe down to open Quick Settings > Swipe left for additional tiles > Tap Screen Recorder (may require enabling in Settings > Display > Screen recorder).
  • Google Pixel: Swipe down twice from the top to open Quick Settings > Tap Screen recording (appears as a tile; if hidden, tap "Edit" to add it).
  • Stock Android: Swipe down twice > Tap Screen recording in Quick Settings. If not visible, tap "Edit" or " pencil" icon to add the tile from the list.

On Windows 10/11:

  1. Press Windows + G to open the Xbox Game Bar.
  2. Click the "Capture" tab.
  3. Hit the "Start recording" button (red circle icon).
  4. Alternatively, use Windows + Alt + R for quick start.
  5. In Settings > Gaming > Captures, configure defaults (quality, mic, etc.).

On macOS:

  1. Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot toolbar.
  2. Click the "Options" menu next to the Record button.
  3. Select:
    • "Entire Screen" or "Selected Portion".
    • Enable "Microphone" or "Built-in Microphone" for audio.
  4. Tap the "Record" button (circle).
  5. Control recordings via the Control Center: Open Control Center > Long-press the Screen Recording icon > Toggle microphone > Start.

On web browsers (extensions/add-ons):

  • Chrome/Firefox/Safari: Install extensions like "Loom," "Screencastify," or "GoRecord." Screen recording buttons appear in the browser toolbar after installation.

Notes:

  • iOS/macOS restricts background recording for security; the system blocks apps from using the feature during active recording.
  • On Android, Samsung’s tool includes editing options (clip trimming, drawing).
  • Windows Xbox Game Bar is optimized for gaming but records any application.
  • macOS requires enabling this via System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Screen Recording.
